Grants and Contributions

The projects consists of the development of 10 courses in legal translation which will be added to the University's online bachelor degree in translation. The courses will give the opportunity for participants to have access to training opportunities through distance education and will contribute to improving access to justice in both official languages.

It is committed to the achievement of several primary objectives which address the role of the provincial courts as integral players in the delivery of justice to the citizens of Canada. These include: monitoring the status of provincially-appointed judges, acting as an advisory and consultative body to governments and other agencies involved in reforming the system of justice, and being an educator and disseminator of information to judges across the country.

The organization will offer intensive and targeted legal French language training, focusing on criminal law, to law clerks, probation officers, provincial crown attorneys, legal aid lawyers and interpreters, outside of Quebec and Ontario. The organization will also provide learning resources to participants and participate in the training coordination work undertaken by Le Regroupement national de formation en justice.

The project aims to convey information to francophone seniors of New Brunswick on subjects related to justice. The information sessions, in plain language, will aim to improve access to legal information in French and legal knowledge amongst seniors.

The project aims to convey legal information to young Francophones of the province through information sessions in high schools. The organization will cover topics such as sexual exploitation on the Internet, bullying in schools, youth abuse, linguistic rights, etc. The information sessions, delivered in plain language, will aim to improve access to legal information in French and legal knowledge amongst Youth.

The organisation will offer 16 training courses in French to practising members of the Law Society of New Brunswick as part of their mandatory continuing professional development. The project will increase the number of French course options available under the Society's Mandatory Continuing Professional Development.

The project will consist of helping organizations representing Francophone communities in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island and in the three territories to improve their ability to deliver justice-related services and projects in French. The work will include undertaking consultations and sharing information on developments and issues related to access to justice in both official languages.

The funding will help defray costs associated with legal French language training being offered to Provincial Court Judges. The training, held in New Brunswick, will consist of two one-week sessions per year. It is expected that the judges will improve their proficiency to preside over trials in French.

The organization will develop a series of legal and linguistic tools related to the standardization of French common law terminology and the development of the Juriterm database. The organization will provide reference services and repositories of documents, contribute to Jurisource.ca, a web portal that provides access to legal and jurilinguistic resources, and collaborate on the network activities of the Jurilinguistics Centers and of the National Training Consortium in Justice.

The project consists of two online courses and one in-person training per year on the legal vocabulary related to the Divorce Act, Custody and Access and Child Support. The training will target employees from English-speaking provinces and the three territories (Legal Aid lawyers, court staff, court interpreters, lawyers, mediators, clerks, etc.) as well as other private stakeholders in the field of Family Law.
