Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Ebola Crisis in the DRC - Emergency Medical Treatment - Doctors Without Borders (MSF) 2018
7398099 P006746001
November 2018 - A 10th outbreak of the Ebola virus disease was declared in North Kivu and Ituri provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on August 1, 2018. North Kivu and Ituri are among the most populated provinces in the DRC. The provinces have been experiencing intense insecurity and a worsening humanitarian crisis, with limited access and over one million internally displaced people. The continuous movement of refugees to neighbouring countries, including Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania, represents a risk of spreading the outbreak to other provinces and neighbouring countries.
With GAC’s support, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is helping to meet the immediate medical needs of persons infected by or at risk of contracting Ebola in the affected health zones. MSF specializes in emergency health services and is the lead on Ebola treatment in the DRC. Project activities include: (1) establishing Ebola treatment centres in affected health zones; (2) improving medical management of patients and suspected cases; (3) improving surveillance, case management and infection management and control; and (4) raising awareness and immunization of at-risk groups.

Reducing Barriers for Uniformed Women in UN Peace Operations
7398884 P006631001
This project aims to support decision-makers in UN Troop and Police Contributing Countries (TPCCs) with evidence and knowledge of the barriers limiting the deployment of uniformed women to United Nations (UN) Peace Operations. The participation and full involvement of women is important for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security, and yet, the proportion of uniformed women deploying on UN Peace Operations is very low. With a better understanding of why there are so few uniformed women, effective measures can be taken to reduce these gender imbalances. Project activities include: (1) collaborating with national or regional research partners from 8 selected TPCCs; (2) developing a comprehensive Barrier Assessment Methodology to undertake research of the barriers to women’s participation in UN Peace Operations resulting in detailed reports and policy recommendations to TPCCs; and (3) producing a series of Policy Briefs to inform policy development on women’s participation in UN Peace Operations at both country and multilateral levels.

Swift Core 2 - Modular Cell Platform
918241
The Swift Core 2 is an intrinsically-safe*, modular, cellular platform. Its primary purpose will be to enable rapid development of cellular IOT applications for ruggedized environments. This platform will be the first to enable rapid prototyping and production of C1D1* products for the industrial IOT markets.
*Intrinsic safety (IS) is a protection technique for safe operation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas by limiting the energy, electrical and thermal, available for ignition.
“Class 1 Division 1” – Compliance to C1D1 is one of the most stringent industrial certifications required to operate a product in the Oil and Gas industry.
