Throughout this 19-month project, Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) will scale “Empowering Newcomer Women: Building Bright Futures in Early Childhood Education” to advance women’s economic security and prosperity by supporting viable career paths for newcomer and low-income women, and 2SLGBTQI+ communities working as Early Childcare Educators (ECE's) in centre-based childcare, through systemic change. It will scale the project intersectionally –through engaging with key stakeholders who engage with equity deserving groups, such as newcomer and low-income women, and 2SLGBTQI+ in communities.

Specifically, it will address barriers that inhibit low-income and newcomer women, nonbinary, and trans people from engaging in full and meaningful labour market participation as ECE's.

To do so, the project will (1) develop hiring and onboarding practices of centre based child care educators through policies and organizational diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives (DEI), (2) engage working groups and partners, including municipalities and child care communities, and DEI committees located in Durham and Peterborough to gather information about the intersectionality of the scaled up population; (3) develop resources to identify barriers to education and employment of scaled group of equity deserving ECE’s and incorporate intersectionality; (4) review existing CELC policies, procedures and practices to scale the previously developed practices from the closed project on assessing assumptions and create equitable one and (5) develop sustainability plan to remove barriers and increase stability for ECE's.

Dobbins Construction and Metal Manufacturing Ltd. will receive $26,500 toward a 1-year, $53,000 project to purchase capital equipment required to increase the capacity of building fire-rated doors, roofs, and fire-rated metal structures. Dobbins Construction and Metal Manufacturing Ltd, is situated in Yellowknife NWT, and will enhance its operations and economic growth by acquiring new equipment to fabricate metal products such as roofing, siding, and trims.

Baffin Business Development Corporation (BBDC) will host the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association's (NACCA) AGM from September 10 to 12, 2024 in Iqaluit, NU. They will handle logistics, contracts and delivery of the event for over 100 delegates from across Canada

True North Helicopters Ltd. is receiving $99,999 towards a one year $1,692,530 project to construct a new hangar facility in the Yukon to enhance operational readiness and efficiency for helicopter services, addressing current infrastructure constraints.

Ideal Woodwork Ltd. iwill procure, install and train staff on a new numerical controlled machinery unit at their Yellowknife, Northwest Territories Facilities.

Shot in the Dark Productions is receiving $63,000 CanNor funding for a two-year project valued at $195,000. This funding will help accelerate growth and support the adoption of digital technologies, including online distribution through platforms like YouTube and social media, to enhance the scalability, productivity, and global competitiveness of independent northern content.

Hay River Heavy Truck Sales Ltd. will undertake a project costing $99,990 (25% of a $394,090 total project cost) over one year to purchase a new CNC Plate Roller to expand their current offerings. Hay River Heavy Truck Sales Ltd. is a heavy truck dealership and tank manufacturer for truck-mounted tanks, providing welding and maintenance repairs to remote diamond mines. The business has been in operation for 10 years. 

Outcrop Nunavut Ltd. will be completing a two-year project to upgrade digital conference services and deliver Audio and Visual (AV) Services Training  in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
