Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Investigation of a novel configuration of a two-bladed troposkien shape vertical axis wind turbine

Agreement Number:

925145

Duration: from Mar 15, 2019 to Mar 31, 2020
Description:

Blade-Vortex Interaction (BVI) is a well-studied phenomenon in Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) which can cause significant reduction in power generation capacity of the turbine. This proposal suggests a solution that has the potential to mitigate this adverse effect and increase the performance of the turbine significantly.

Uncertainty quantification of shock wave location variation for transonic flutter prediction

Agreement Number:

925143

Duration: from Mar 15, 2019 to Mar 31, 2020
Description:

Flutter is a dangerous unstable vibration of flexible structures/aircraft subjected to aerodynamic forces at high speeds. The project will quantify the effect of shock-wave location variations on the transonic flutter speed, by developing an uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis framework.

Leveraging the power of yeast genetics for accelerated mammalian cell engineering

Agreement Number:

925090

Duration: from Mar 15, 2019 to Mar 31, 2020
Description:

Key limitations of iPSC-derived cells are the persistence of immature phenotypes and variability between iPSC lines. To address these problems, a Synthetic Biology platform that leverages yeast prototyping will be developed to enable accurate post-differentiation manipulation and correction of genome-scale expression profiles to better recapitulate desired endogenous cellular phenotypes.
