Through this 15-month project Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan will strengthen the GBV sector to address gaps in supports by strengthening data collection on sexual violence in Saskatchewan. To enhance Saskatchewan-specific, community data collection to measure progress in sexual violence prevention efforts and capture the unique realities of Saskatchewan’s rural, remote, northern and Indigenous communities the organization will conduct key activities that include working with communities to identify meaningful indicators of change, establishing practical data collection tools and baseline data points as well as developing a publicly accessible online dashboard.

By the end of the project Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan Inc, will have partnered with community-based organizations, research institutions and government stakeholders to empower organizations, improve policy responses and enhance the accountability of sexual violence prevention efforts across the province.

Also, the project will improve the enabling environment for women by working with the government, civil society, and farmer cooperatives to support inclusive and gender-responsive agri-food systems.

Project activities include: (1) designing and deploying more accessible and adapted financial services, markets and information for women and youth led farmer cooperatives and businesses; (2) providing support to micro, small and medium women-led businesses to address shared value chain productivity constraints; (3) improving leadership abilities of women and youth in cooperatives and agribusinesses; and (4) supporting sector-specific government agents and civil society actors, such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

UN Women supports the advancement of gender equality and women’s empowerment both within the UN system and internationally.

This project aims to address key gender inequality and human rights issues, particularly: harmful social norms regarding gender and sexuality; lack of adequate information on or access to comprehensive SRH services particularly for safe abortion; lack of decision-making power by girls and women regarding their health and sexuality; as well as limited capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) including women’s rights organizations and youth-led organizations to effectively advocate for SRHR at local, national, regional and international levels.

Project activities include: (1) Journalists and content-creators trained on inclusive governance principles, countering gendered- information manipulation, gender-transformative reporting, and on digital, physical, and psycho-social security strategies; (2) Journalists and content-creators trained on content monetization strategies, grant writing, digitalization, and revenue diversification; (3) Local grassroots women rights movements, CSOs, CBOs & activists trained on media relations, digital & media campaigns, communication planning, and digital, physical, & psycho-social security strategies; (4) Civil servants, government officials, and political aspirants trained on gender-sensitive communication strategies, and GBA+ analysis in data collection, policy-formulation, budgeting and service delivery; and (5) Thematic Roundtable discussions between media, government officials, and women’s rights CSOs and CBOs on gender equality, women representation and civic engagement.

This project is part of the renewed Canada’s Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Program, which supports local and regional women’s organizations, networks, and Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) working to promote women’s rights and advance women’s empowerment and gender equality in developing countries. This is done by supporting activities, building institutional capacity, and promoting network and alliance-building as women’s rights and feminist organizations are critical agents of change.

The project will seek to strengthen capacities among ministry of health employees, as well as health practitioners, by providing training on health information, surveillance and monitoring systems, gender-sensitive health services planning, and delivery of sexual and reproductive health services.

In addition, PFRD has cross-cutting themes of gender, citizen engagement, climate resilience and digital innovation which are central to its operations and are implemented throughout its portfolio.

At the community level, the project promotes social and behavior change to support equitable community structures, challenge traditional gender norms, and address discriminatory practices and power imbalances.

The project aims to address the disproportionate effects of gender inequality, climate change, and conflict on women and girls in Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and the West Bank. Led by KAIROS, a Canadian civil society development partner, and in collaboration with local human rights organizations, the project focuses on empowering women peacebuilders and local networks to lead interventions at the intersection of the triple nexus of climate change, conflict, and gender inequality. The initiative seeks to foster more sustainable, equitable, resilient, and peaceful societies in these regions by enhancing local capacity and strengthening the impact of gender-transformative approaches to these interconnected challenges.
