Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Walk Into History
Pelican Lake First Nation proposes to promote less use of vehicles by creating pathways to support walking and cycling. Its project name will be a " walk into history" this is symbolic of the location of the trails in both Clear Water Lake and within Pelican's currently developed elders' village and where the elders lodge is located. Both locations are used by the land based educators for both the elementary and high school in PLFN. Clear Water Lake is a part of the PLFN business venture of the Chamakese resort, PLFN outfitters. This business provides tourist services, cabins, fishing and this location also provides cultural and socio-economic benefits. The proposed trail in the community of PLFN is estimated at 5km with required culverts to address flooding and to install benches, fruit trees to support culture, picnic tables, barbeques for community gatherings and fencing to avoid use of motorized transportation. The trail in Chitek Lake is estimated at 8km. This trail requires clearing and to be gated to ensure this path is used only for walking cycling, scooters and wheelchairs.

Seismic Upgrade and Rehabilitation of Cambie Street Bridge in Vancouver, British Columbia
Three bridges span False Creek connecting Vancouver’s densely populated downtown peninsula with the rest of the city, however none of the three bridges have been upgraded to meet modern seismic performance criteria that would prevent full or partial collapses and allow them to resume operations shortly after an earthquake. Of the three bridges, the Cambie Bridge was identified as the most eligible to be seismically upgraded, as it is the newest and would achieve the highest level of seismic performance, making it likely to see minimal damage or service disruptions in the 475-year return period earthquake.Given the high-level of expected seismic performance following the retrofit, the Cambie Bridge could be made operable for emergency vehicles shortly after an earthquake, following a post-disaster inspection. Reopening the bridge quickly will be critical to public safety, as it would serve as the primary route connecting the downtown peninsula with the rest of Vancouver.
