Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Idea to Innovation
11020242025Q4472
Thee Idea to Innovation (I2I) Grants aims to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector and promote its transfer to a new or established Canadian company. The I2I Grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. This is achieved through defined phases by providing crucial assistance in the early stages of technology validation and market connection.

Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership - Nigeria
7466469 P013527001
This project is part of the renewed Canada’s Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Program, which supports local and regional women’s organizations, networks, and Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) working to promote women’s rights and advance women’s empowerment and gender equality in developing countries. This is done by supporting activities, building institutional capacity, and promoting network and alliance-building as women’s rights and feminist organizations are critical agents of change. The Program also responds to the significant, globally recognized gap in funding and support to women’s rights organizations and movements around the world.
This project, implemented by ActionAid Nigeria, is expected to directly benefit 92 local women's rights organizations and their extended networks in eight states across Nigeria. The project also aims to support the implementation of innovative ideas and approaches led by local women’s rights organizations.

Strengthening Health Systems for Women and Adolescent Girls
7466748 P014335001
The project aims to address the barriers that affect the sexual and reproductive health status and full enjoyment of rights of women and girls, with a focus on migrants in Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Honduras, and Peru. The project will seek to strengthen capacities among ministry of health employees, as well as health practitioners, by providing training on health information, surveillance and monitoring systems, gender-sensitive health services planning, and delivery of sexual and reproductive health services. In parallel, it will deliver workshops and comprehensive sexuality education to enhance knowledge among beneficiaries regarding their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and increase their capacity to advocate for their rights. The project will organize awareness campaigns for community members and leaders on harmful gender-related norms and practices. Finally, it will provide technical support to governments and key stakeholders, including women elected officials, to develop, implement and enforce evidence-based SRHR public policies and strategies, in addition to providing training to civil society organizations, such as women’s rights organizations, to increase their capacity to advocate for the equal enjoyment of their rights.

Exploring the desert: Thermal characterization of an exposed planetary core
24JWGO3A05
This project will observe the thermal emission of TOI-849 b, one of the most intriguing sub Neptunes, with JWST. Because of its large mass and its high temperature, TOI-849b is an ultra-dense and ultra-hot sub-Neptune which is thought to be the exposed remnant core of a giant planet, akin to the deep interior of our own Jupiter but without the extended hydrogen atmosphere. These observations will characterize the composition and structure of the planet and reveal key insights into its nature and evolution. This will represent a major step for sub-Neptune and planet formation science by giving a previously unobtainable direct look at a planetary core of a giant planet, enabling abundance and temperature structure measurements.

Thermal emission of cool, potentially volcanically active exo-Earths
24JWGO3A09
This project will observe the mid-IR thermal emission of the recently discovered cool exo-Earth LP 791-18d to determine whether an atmosphere is present or not. LP 791- 18d orbits a nearby M6 dwarf and is proposed to be volcanically active due to strong tidal heating of its interior, similar to Jupiter's moon Io. The volcanic activity would result in continuous replenishment of LP 791-18d's atmosphere, which our observations will probe for. The presence of an atmosphere on LP 791-18d would be a first signal that cool rocky planet around M dwarf can host atmospheres, motivating a larger campaign to probe the prevalence and diversity of secondary atmospheres.

Super-charging Euclid's Deep Field North
24EXPROSS4
The project will combine U-band imaging from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) with Euclid, Subaru, and Spitzer data in the Euclid Deep Field North to produce photometric catalogs of millions of galaxies over an unprecedented combination of area (10 sq deg) and depth (27 mag). The U-band data we will add to this dataset is key for accurate photometric redshifts and measuring rates of star formation in galaxies. The joint catalogs will open a large field of science areas for investigation; in particular, the team will study how the fates of millions of galaxies are governed by their locations within the filamentary, Universe-pervading Cosmic Web. The catalogs will contain millions of galaxies and will be made public enabling a vast array of research and a legacy treasure-trove.
