The purpose of the Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP) grant agreement is to support Canadian SMEs identify international partners in CIIP target countries for industrial research and development collaboration that has good potential for commercialization.

This grant represents Canada's institutional support to the Commonwealth of Learning (COL). The COL uses these funds, along with other donor funding, to achieve its mandate, which is to help governments, institutions and organizations expand the scale, efficiency and quality of learning by using appropriate open, distance and technology-enabled learning.

Guided by its 2021-2027 Strategic Plan, the COL focuses its programming and advocacy using distance learning and technologies to achieve improved outcomes in education, skills development and lifelong learning across the Commonwealth. It acts as an enabler, a capacity-builder and a catalyst to empower people through learning that leads to economic growth, social inclusion and environmental conservation.

Project activities of COL include: (1) improving the capacity of government staff to develop and implement appropriate open and distance learning (ODL) strategies, policies and programs; (2) improving the capacity of staff and trainers to use, implement and scale up gender-responsive, quality ODL opportunities offered by institutions; (3) facilitating access to learning opportunities, particularly for women and girls, through community sensitization and support; (4) providing mentorship and facilitating access to services and financial resources for entrepreneurship and livelihood development; and (5) establishing partnerships with labour markets, finance and the service industry to facilitate the transition between learning and its practical application in the market.

This project is part of Canada’s Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Program. It supports local and regional women’s rights organizations (WROs) and feminist networks working to promote the rights of women and girls and advance gender equality in developing countries. Understanding that WROs and their networks are critical change agents, the Program provides multi-year core funding and rapid responsive funding to strengthen institutional capacity and bolster feminist alliances. The Program continues to respond to the globally recognized and significant gap in funding and support for WROs and movements worldwide. It recognizes that those groups working at intersecting forms of discrimination and in crisis- and conflict-affected countries are funded even less. The Renewed WVL Program includes enhanced support for WROs and women human rights defenders working in crisis- and conflict-affected settings and a more intentional approach to reaching structurally excluded groups. This includes but is not limited to women and girls with disabilities, Indigenous women and girls and young feminists.

This project aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and engagement by placing Canadian university students in entrepreneurial environments within key Indo-Pacific markets, connecting relevant public-private stakeholders at the Cansbridge Indo-Pacific Conference, and simultaneously establishing lifelong relationships through the Cansbridge Mentorship Program. The project places 15 "Cansbridge Fellows" into the Indo-Pacific region for summer internships. These internships aim to provide 15 Canadian university students with over 8,000 hours of expertise and knowledge sharing at leading companies, enhancing cross-cultural exposure through internships, workshops, and mentorship. This project also seeks to generate over 100 new relationships with the region's top employers, connect and deepen ties with over 50 new prospective regional partners and leaders across the public and private sector through the Cansbridge Indo-Pacific Conference. This project aims to mitigate the longstanding and serious threats associated with “deliberate disease” emanating from Africa. These challenges that are prioritized by the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the G7, the United Nations and INTERPOL. This project aims to support Africa CDC to further develop and deliver a comprehensive Strategic Plan on Biosafety and Biosecurity. This Project, a product of the Canada-led Signature Initiative to Mitigate Biological Threats in Africa, seeks to enable a multi-year sustained push by Africa CDC to prevent, detect and respond to deliberate disease threats through continent-wide capacity building for biosecurity (i.e. protecting pathogens from illicit acquisition) and biosafety (i.e. preventing accidental release of pathogens from laboratories and protecting lab staff from infection).
