The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program helps develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program helps develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• Accelerate discovery and innovation research that will generate the knowledge needed to advance the development of the next generation of testing, prevention, treatment and cure interventions;
• Develop skills for the future of inter- and transdisciplinary HIV/AIDS and STBBI research with training and mentorship that supports trainees and early career investigators in integrating new technologies and methods into their research;
• Advance community-centred approaches to research that meaningfully engages community members from key populations WSC Note: #moreinformation disproportionately affected by HIV in Canada and people with lived and living experience (PWLLE) throughout the research process; and
• Mobilize knowledge amongst researchers, PWLLE, industry, communities, health practitioners and decision makers to effectively co-create, synthesize and apply research findings to development of clinical and/or commercial applications and strategies that foster equitable benefit across key populations.

1. Promote research independence and academic research career readiness of highly qualified post-doctoral researchers, clinicians and PhD-holding research associates belonging to specific underrepresented groups;
2. Increase the number of funded researchers from specific underrepresented groups conducting excellent research who secure their first independent research faculty position in a Canadian academic, health system or research institution; and
3. Provide funded researchers from specific underrepresented groups with early career support to enhance their probability of future success in obtaining independent research funding and launching successful research faculty careers in Canada that will contribute to the creation and/or use of health-related knowledge to improve the health of Canadians.

• The Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies (CRPPHE) is housed at CIHR with a mandate to grow Canada’s research leadership in preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery from pandemics and public health emergencies, including by building and supporting Canadian research capacity in these areas. CRPPHE will fund applications that address its mandate and the research areas listed below.
• CRPPHE welcomes interdisciplinary applications, including those addressing more than one of the listed Research Areas and/or more than one of the emergency management pillars(i.e., preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery)

The Vanier CGS program aims to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health; as well as leadership skills.

• The CIHR Institute of Indigenous Peoples' Health (IIPH) fosters the advancement of a national health research agenda to improve and promote the health of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in Canada, through research, knowledge translation and capacity building. The Institute's pursuit of research excellence is enhanced by respect for community research priorities and Indigenous knowledges, values and cultures.
