The project will expand legal tenancy advice services across the province of Nova Scotia to meet an increasing demand. Public legal education materials will be developed and updated throughout the project, and workshops on tenants' rights will be delivered across the province and in partnership with community organizations and service providers.

The project will increase awareness and skills among Nova Scotia Crown Attorneys to help them better recognize and effectively deal with, in the prosecution context, the traumatic impact hate crime has on victims, both as individuals and affected communities. The project will develop and deliver written hate crime guidance for Nova Scotia Crown Attorneys and provide them online and in-person training on prosecuting hate crimes. The project will conduct in-person training of Newfoundland Crowns on the topic of hate crimes.

This project will focus on revitalizing Inuit legal traditions by prioritizing research into historic and contemporary Inuit laws, traditional practices, and customary approaches to justice, of Inuit in Labrador, Inuit Nunangat, as well as that of other Indigenous groups in Canada. The project will support the development of a framework for Inuit laws within the Nunatsiavut Government self-governance structures and communities.

The Inuit Victims Services Program is a culturally sensitive and community-focused initiative that will support Inuit who are victims or survivors of crime, recognizing the historical and social challenges faced by Inuit.

A Journey Forward: Pathways to Healing and Empowerment project is rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and is designed to build a culturally safe and sensitive foundation to better understand community needs.

Victims and Survivors of Crime Week projects provide an opportunity to raise awareness about victim issues and about the programs, services and laws in place to help victims and survivors of crime and their families.

The project aims to transform mediation practices by adapting the HELP Toolkit to apply the HELP-M approach. The adapted Toolkit will support standardized screening for family violence, gender-based violence and coercive control for mediators. The project will complete a needs assessment, engage with stakeholders, conduct focus groups and interviews, and consult with an advisory committee who will guide the toolkit’s development and implementation.

Through a culturally safe and survivor-led approach, the Supporting Indigenous Survivors of Human Trafficking Pilot Project will develop comprehensive anti-trafficking training and a toolkit to support survivors exiting trafficking and a victim support model.

The Family Information Liaison Unit will continue to provide a “one-stop information service” to families. The Family Information Liaison Unit will provide information to family members pertaining to a missing or murdered Indigenous person. The Ontario Family Information Liaison Unit workers are of Indigenous ancestry, knowledgeable, culturally competent, and responsive to the needs of the family members they serve. The Family Information Liaison Unit engages with key justice partners, including crown attorneys, provincial, municipal, and Indigenous police services, court offices and victim service agencies.

This project will work to re-establish and strengthen the role of Indigenous laws.
