In accordance with the Access to Information Act, the government proactively publishes the package of question period notes that were prepared by a government institution for the minister and that were in use on the last sitting day in June and December.
The question period notes may be partially or fully redacted in accordance with the legislation; for example, if the notes contain information related to national security or personal information. (Learn more about exemptions and exclusions.)

For the 2024 intake of the parents and grandparents program, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited potential sponsors from the remaining pool of Interest to Sponsor forms from 2020. Beginning May 21, 2024, over the course of approximately two weeks, IRCC invited 35,700 potential sponsors to apply. The deadline to apply was August 2, 2024.

Canada-Québec Accord and immigration-related issues
Canada is continuing to experience high volumes of asylum claimants due to a number of factors, despite extending the application of the Safe Third Country Agreement a year ago and the recent Mexican visa partial reimposition. In response, Canada has proposed legislative amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act to address system-wide bottlenecks by simplifying and streamlining the claim process in support of enhanced program integrity and faster processing of asylum claims.

Immigration Pathways for Caregivers and Processing Plan
The Government of Canada is providing support to Canadians, Canadian permanent residents and their eligible family members in Israel, Gaza and the West bank through assisted departures and facilitative measures due to the conflict in the region. The Government is also providing supports to foreign nationals in Gaza who are related to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident that will be supporting them in Canada as part of the temporary protection pathway the Government has created.
