For the 2024 intake of the parents and grandparents program, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited potential sponsors from the remaining pool of Interest to Sponsor forms from 2020. Beginning May 21, 2024, over the course of approximately two weeks, IRCC invited 35,700 potential sponsors to apply. The deadline to apply was August 2, 2024.

Lacrosse is a new addition to the sports program for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The Haudenosaunee Nationals Lacrosse Team (Haudenosaunee Nationals) has been advocating to be included as a competitor at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, during the Tribal Nations Summit, President Biden announced the United States Government’s support for the Haudenosaunee bid.

That same day, the Minister of Sport and Physical Activity also issued a statement supporting the Haudenosaunee’s bid for inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

On February 15, 2024, the Prime Minister also expressed his support of the Haudenosaunee’s efforts via social media channels.

The UCI Road World Championships is an 8-day event that will attract over 1,000 athletes from over 75 countries as well as more than 5,000 team members, officials, and other guests. The projected economic impact for the province of Quebec will be over $170 million and more than $210 million for Canada. 

The event will be led by the organizing committee Mondiaux Montréal 2026 in collaboration with the UCI, Cycling Canada and the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes. Financial assistance will be provided by the Governments of Canada and Quebec, the City of Montréal and Tourisme Montréal.
