The Canadian sport system has been under the spotlight to address this public health issue. The Standing Committee on Health’s (HESA) 24th Report on the Subcommittee on Sports-Related Concussions in Canada’s study, entitled “Tackling the Problem Head-on: Sports-Related Concussions in Canada” was initially tabled on June 3, 2019, in the House of Commons and could soon be re-submitted. The report contains 13 recommendations to support ongoing actions by the Federal government in this area.

Hamilton 2026, a community-based bid group, is exploring the possibility of hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Hamilton, Ontario. The international Commonwealth Games Federation worked exclusively with Hamilton 2026 and Commonwealth Sport Canada until the end of September 2020 to develop a proposal and budget estimates to secure government support for the event. On October 6, 2020, a Hamilton area MPP suggested that the Province of Ontario would not be in a position to support the 2026 Games.
