On April 17, 2020, the Prime Minister announced funding of $500 million to establish a new COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations. On May 8, 2020, the Prime Minister announced further details regarding this funding.
On May 8, 2020, the Minister of Canadian Heritage announced new details about the $500 million COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations. $53 million of the fund will be provided to the heritage sector through the emergency component of the Museums Assistance Program. These funds will be disbursed in Phase 2 of the budget envelope, with more details to follow in the coming weeks.
The Athlete Assistance Program provides direct financial support to over 1800 Canadian high performance (carded) athletes, across more than 94 sport disciplines. The Government of Canada has allocated $5 million in Emergency Support Funding to this grant program.
