Title:
Biomethanization Warwick Agricultural Cooperative
Agreement Number:
ACT-006
Agreement Value:
$758,243.00
Agreement Date:
Oct 23, 2019 - Mar 31, 2021
Description:
The objective of this project is to develop the production of biomethane in the Canadian agriculture/agribusiness sector. The objective of the biomethanization project is to focus on the synergies between the partners in order to deploy a first cooperative agricultural biomethanizer that will valorize manure/slurry as a means of diversifying producers' revenues while improving the environmental performance of their operations. The project also includes an innovation component that focuses on the recovery and use of the biomethanization digestate obtained through a solid-liquid separation process followed by membrane filtration of the liquid fraction.
Organization:
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
Expected Results:

This project aims to adopt biomethanization technology to reduce the environmental impacts of organic agricultural waste by producing biomethane from manure, food processing waste and municipal sludge. This transformation will reduce reeenhouse gas emissions from current manure management as the biogas will be transformed into biomethane, a renewable natural gas. This project also supports a region-specific value chain to create alternatives to fossil fuel-based technologies.
