Title:
Thermally Sprayed Functional High-Entropy Alloy (HEA) Coatings for Advanced Transport and Energy Applications
Agreement Number:
998849
Agreement Value:
$300,000.00
Agreement Date:
Feb 14, 2023 - Dec 31, 2025
Description:
The Project will investigate high temperature performance for oxidation, corrosion and wear of cold sprayed and warm sprayed high-entropy alloy (HEA) coatings and benchmark these with respect to existing high temperature resistant MCrAlY alloys used as traditional bond coat materials and/or wear resistant coatings. These traditional coatings include tungsten or chromium carbide-based cermets. The novel HEA coatings proposed in this Project may become alternatives to the traditional high temperature resistant metallic alloys and cermet overlay coatings and thus be used on a component surface that works in elevated temperature environments providing increased protection against oxidation, corrosion and wear while increasing the lifetime of the component over a wide range of operating conditions and eliminating costs associated with repair and overhaul.
Organization:
National Research Council Canada
Expected Results:
In the short term, anticipated outcomes will be strengthened collaborations across industry, academia, and government to support research excellence. In the medium term, anticipated outcomes will be the development of new and potentially disruptive technologies with collaborators. In the long term, find collaborative solutions to public policy challenges and create stronger innovation systems.
