• Our government is working to renew our relationship with Indigenous peoples based on the affirmation of rights, respect, and partnership.

• We respect the decision of the Wolastoqey to pursue their claims through the courts, but Canada believes that the best way to achieve reconciliation is through negotiation and dialogue.

• As stated in the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Chiefs in 2019, Canada remains committed to implementing Wolastoqey Aboriginal and treaty rights, including title.

• We cannot comment further as this matter is before the courts.
