Suggested Response:
• I’m proud of my Department’s achievements in 2023–24, including:
• publishing Canada’s Blue Economy Regulatory Roadmap;
• supporting conservation and sustainable fishing and harvesting strategies;
• addressing environmental challenges such as pollution and climate change, including the retrieval of over 500 tonnes of ghost gear;
• delivering quality science;
• maintaining and modernizing the Canadian Coast Guard fleet, which includes starting construction of an Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship; and
• fostering a collaborative and respectful relationship with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people, including reaching four new Rights Reconciliation Agreements with 11 First Nations.
Background:
• This Departmental Results Report outlines DFO’s expenditures, priorities, results achieved, and associated resources used.
• The Department performed well overall against the plans and targets identified in the 2023–24 Departmental Plan and made progress on the Department’s overall priorities.
• The Department's total actual spending for 2023–24 was $4,546 million. This represents an increase of 20 percent compared to the total actual spending for 2022-23 ($3,776.8 million). The increase is primarily related to spending on the Canadian Coast Guard fleet projects and operations as well as Indigenous programs.
• The Department's total authorities for 2023–24 were $5,156.7 million.
