Issue/Question:

Aristotle Foundation research refuting existence of systemic racism based on data on education and wages.

Suggested Response:

It is unfortunate that even in 2023, the lived experience of so many of our fellow Canadians is being denied. Racism, racial discrimination, and hate are real in Canada, and we are committed as Government to do what it takes to make a difference.

As the COVID pandemic showed, racial inequities and hate increased considerably over the last few years. The data is unequivocal: several racialized communities and Indigenous peoples have been placed at a clear disadvantage, whether from the vantage point of health outcomes, poverty rates, or even underemployment, particularly for Black communities.

Even the most recent public opinion polling shows that more than two thirds of persons who are racialized report having experienced racism.

It is for this reason that the Government will do everything in our power to combat systemic anti-Indigenous racism, anti-Black racism, anti-Asian racism, anti-Arab racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, and any other form of racism and related intolerance, including through a new Anti-Racism Strategy and Canada’s first ever Action Plan on Combatting Hate.
