Suggested Response:
• Our hearts go out to all loved ones of those we have lost to suicide, and to those who struggle with suicidal thoughts.
• It is essential for Canadians to have timely access to suicide prevention – they need to know they are not alone; someone is there to help.
• People across Canada can now call or text 9-8-8 to have access to 24/7, bilingual, trauma-informed, and culturally appropriate suicide prevention support.
• Building on current evidence and the momentum and collaboration of 9-8-8, our government is also leading the development of a National Suicide Prevention Action Plan to strengthen Canada’s collective response to suicide..
• The Government of Canada will be releasing the Action Plan in Spring 2024 with the aim of increasing collaboration with partners, including provinces and territories, Indigenous partners and suicide prevention stakeholders to advance shared suicide prevention priorities.
