Issue/Question:
The Government of Canada is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector, including by putting more low-emission vehicles on the road.
Suggested Response:
• Our government is committed to putting more zero- emission vehicles on the roads in Canada as part of the transition to a cleaner economy.
• The Speech from the Throne reaffirmed this commitment by vowing to make zero-emission vehicles more affordable while investing in more charging stations across the country.
• This commitment builds on the more than $300 million that has been committed to create a coast-to-coast network of fast-chargers for electric vehicles, as well as street charging and charging in apartment buildings, retail outlets and the workplace.
• Over 380 fast-chargers are already open to the public and many more are under construction.
• This network is essential for Canada to achieve its targets of having zero-emission vehicles account for 100 percent of all vehicle sales by 2040.
• Our government is also making zero-emission vehicles more affordable by providing incentives for Canadians to purchase these vehicles, and a tax allowance when these vehicles are purchased for business use.
• This is how we get to net-zero by 2050.
