Issue/Question:

Climate change impacts affect Canadians across the country along with the resilience of the natural resources sectors and the communities that depend on them. These impacts will persist, and in many cases amplify over the coming decades. Ambitious action is necessary to reduce risks, build resilience and adapt to take advantage of emerging opportunities.

Suggested Response:

• Our government is ensuring that Canadians, the economy, communities and our environment are resilient to the impacts of a changing climate.
• Climate change impacts are becoming more frequent and more severe. Our government is providing businesses and communities with support to find and implement solutions that meet their needs.
• Climate change impacts do not affect all Canadians equally. We need to work together to ensure our response to the risks of climate change increases social equity.
• Our programs work with industry, communities, governments, and other organizations to better assess the risks and benefits of a changing climate, as well as implement measures to adapt to them.
• NRCan leads the national knowledge assessment process: Canada in a Changing Climate: Advancing our Knowledge for Action, and our next report in this series, National Issues, assesses the impacts of climate change on our society, the environment and the economy and examines how we are adapting to reduce the risks. It will be released in early 2021.
• Our government’s Building Regional Adaptation Capacity and Expertise (BRACE) program is helping Canadians to adapt to climate change through training and skills-building, knowledge exchange and regional collaboration.
