• Veterans Affairs Canada is aware of discussions regarding the possible creation of a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinic at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building for Canadian Armed Forces Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which would also include transitional housing for families during treatment.
• We are responding to Veterans needs and I look forward to continuing the conversation about how we can do more to ensure access to quality care and support for Veterans and their families across Canada.

Background:

BACKGROUND – CAMP HILL WALK IN CLINIC

Veterans Affairs Canada is working hard to ensure that each and every time a Veteran comes forward with a mental health concern, they receive the support they need.

We are responding to Veterans needs and look forward to continuing the conversation about how we can do more to ensure access to quality care and support for Veterans and their families from coast to coast to coast.

Veterans Affairs Canada is aware of discussions regarding the possible creation a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinic at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building for Canadian Armed Forces Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which would also include transitional housing for families during treatment.

It is important to note that Veterans Affairs Canada does not own the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. It is an accredited, provincially owned, health care facility where Veterans Affairs Canada financially supports Veterans who need long term care.

Veterans Affairs Canada is committed to ensuring eligible Veterans, Royal Canadian Mounted Police members, and their families have the mental health support they need, when they need it. We are working hard to ensure that each and every time a Veteran comes forward with a mental health concern, they receive the support they need.

The Department welcomes initiatives to help Veterans and their families in their recovery from Operational Stress Injuries. Veterans Affairs Canada funds a network of 11 Operational Stress Injury Clinics (10 outpatient and 1 inpatient facility) located across the country to provide treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other operational stress injuries. This Network also includes satellite service sites and tele-mental health capability so that both the Veterans and their family can benefit from treatment close to where the Veterans lives.

In 2016, a Veterans Affairs Canada-funded Operational Stress Injury Clinic was officially opened in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to meet the Operational Stress Injury treatment needs of eligible Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police members and to provide support to their families located in the province.

As well, the department has a network of approximately 4,000 mental health service providers located across the county. This includes multi-disciplinary clinics.
Finally, the Operational Stress Injury Social Support program offers confidential peer support to Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans and their families impacted by an operational stress injury. The support is provided by trained peer support and family peer support coordinators, who typically have first-hand experience with these injuries.

Once established, the Camp Hill Clinic can apply with Medavie Blue Cross to become a Veterans-Affairs Canada-registered multi-disciplinary clinic.
