Summary:

Records regarding the Canada Border Services Agency Access to Information and Privacy Office's practices of placing access requests "in abeyance" and of treating or deeming access requests "abandoned". Specifically: all policies, directives, procedures, guidelines, manuals, training materials, and internal guidance that govern placing an access request in abeyance or on hold, and treating or deeming an access request abandoned; the standard templates or model wording used in communications to requesters that request clarification, place a request in abeyance or on hold, or advise that a request will be, or has been, deemed abandoned; any record identifying the statutory or other authority the Agency relies on to place an access request in abeyance and deem an access request abandoned, together with any legal opinion or analysis addressing that authority; any guidance addressing whether, and how, placing a request in abeyance affects or suspends the statutory time limit under section 7 of the Act and the period of inactivity after which a request is deemed abandoned, including the basis for that period; and any guidance addressing how a multi-part request is handled where only part of it requires clarification while other parts can be processed, including whether the entire request may be held in abeyance or deemed abandoned on the basis of a single outstanding part.
