The time frame for this request is December 24, 2024 to the present [July 5, 2025].
Specifically, this request includes any records that reference or relate to:
Whether CMHC or the Government of Canada has considered, planned, or decided to offer mortgage default insurance for Halal mortgages, and if so, any details or timelines of such plans.
All internal or interdepartmental rationale or reasoning for either supporting or not supporting Halal mortgage insurance.
CMHC’s estimation of market demand for Halal mortgages in Canada, including any data, forecasts, or research conducted or commissioned on this topic.
CMHC’s analysis or opinion regarding whether CMHC should support Halal mortgages from a policy, regulatory, financial risk, or equity perspective.
Feedback received by CMHC from any stakeholders—including lenders, mortgage brokers, community organizations, and religious institutions—regarding Halal mortgages.
Any discussions, communications, or documentation involving Budget 2024 commitments or follow-up consultations between CMHC and:
Department of Finance Canada Department of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. Any financial sector representatives Muslim community stakeholders regarding the accessibility or support of Halal mortgages.
