Access to Information Modernization Action Plan Tracker
Institutions regularly assess the feasibility of releasing information and data outside of the access to information (ATI) regime.
Canadians have access to more information and data of interest without having to submit an ATI request.
In March 2025, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat posted a draft version of Chapter 17 – Informal Requests for Information the Access to Information Manual to the ATIP Professionals GCcollab group. The chapter provides guidance to government institutions on processing informal requests for information and on complementary procedures that may be put in place to maximize the release of information to the public in the spirit of transparency and accountability. The chapter will be published to canada.ca as soon as practicable in fiscal year 2025-26.
