Comments:
StatCan proposal was accepted by Defence Research and Development Canada for funding to expand and further develop a community fire risk reduction dashboard.
Additional Comments:
Canadian communities are increasingly experiencing severe wildfire events, other climate-change related extreme events, and loss of entire communities to those events. The obligation and authority to respond to these emergency events is shared between all levels of government, such as municipal, Indigenous, and provincial, territorial, federal. However, many communities and provinces/territories lack the data insights to analyze how best to plan, mitigate, and recover from these types of events. In partnership with StatCan, the Canadian Public Safety Operations Organization (CanOps) will identify a selection of diverse communities across Canada that are well suited for the initial rollout of the Dashboard. The Dashboard will be field tested through the development/ implementation of approaches that will guide its application by other communities.
