Action:

TBS will develop guidance on the accountabilities of Chief Data Officers

Status:
In Progress
Area for Action:
Clarify data leadership responsibilities within and across the Government of Canada
Progress Made Since Last Update:

The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) has begun the process of defining data stewardship responsibilities, within federal institutions and at the Government of Canada (GC) enterprise level, in collaboration with the CPDI Community of Practice on Information and Data (CPDI) Governance Working Group. It is currently at the aggregation stage, which compiles all input received from working group members and identifies common themes and responsibilities. This work examines the roles and responsibilities of all data accountabilities, from the working level to the executive level, with the intention of developing sufficiently generic guidance to support implementation of data accountabilities within organizations and across the GC.
TBS has also begun the correlated deliverables of defining a new C-suite set of positions to lead the actions associated with ensuring good data and information stewardship. Two draft products are now being socialized and refined via two newly established working groups:
1. one is affiliated with the CDO Council (to work on CDO (Chief Data Officer) accountabilities
2. the other is affiliated with the CIO DT subcommittee, whose mandate is to work on Chief Digital Service accountabilities
