Action ID:
2.1.a
Action:

TBS will develop, and work with departments to implement, a protocol identifying and assigning domain data stewards across the public service with clear accountabilities for endorsement, approval, and stewardship

Status:
In Progress
Area for Action:
Establish a data stewardship model for the management of data and standards across the federal government
Progress Made Since Last Update:

We continue to work with the CDO Council to support the development of data stewardship responsibilities within and across federal organizations. This work includes the eventual development of a data domain model for both organizational and enterprise stewardship, including identifying stewards for enterprise data reference standards.
a. (In progress) Representatives from StatCan-OCDO currently co-chair the Community of Practice on Data and Information (CPDI) and are members of the Information and Data Governance working group under the CPDI, which has been tasked with defining data roles in the GC (including data owner, data custodian and data steward).
b. (In progress) The Director General of Strategic Data Management Branch at StatCan is the co-chair of the sub-working group on reference and metadata standards. This group is actively working with GC organizations to define roles of domain stewards, data standard readiness, and the creation of a short list of reference and metadata standards stewarded by departments that are ready to scale to the enterprise.
c. (In progress) StatCan is a co-steward of the first reference data standard (provinces and territories), which has been endorsed by TBS for use by the GC. StatCan currently has a short list of data standards, including those to support the Disaggregated Data Action Plan, various classifications, and metadata standards that are ready to scale to the enterprise.
