The Barriers sub-working group is examining:

  • Improving opportunities for data-sharing
  • Exploring/experimenting with rule-setting ideas government-wide
  • Promulgating technology solutions across the GC so the achievements of one organization can be shared and leveraged by others

In addition, work underway includes:
- Identifying key barriers to be assessed
- Conducting a survey to better understand the challenges and opportunities across the GC
- Initiating projects in the areas of data-sharing, technology solutions and skills development

Other initiatives include:

  • The Sustainability Tool for Financial Management (STFM) is an example of an OCG-built data analytics tool that is currently accessible to all large departments and agencies.

  • As part of the Financial Management Sector PMA commitments, there is now a commitment to enhance a data-driven culture and skills within FMS.

  • OCG has led several hackathons and Sprints that included the participation of many departments. These have covered areas like Gs&Cs, Quarterly Financial reports, etc. More recently the OCG – FMS organized an innovation showcase, where several departments including the OCG showcased the innovative BI projects that have been developed in their respective departments.

  • As part of the enterprise-wide Grants and Contributions (Gs&Cs) Innovation Agenda, an enterprise-wide approach will be pursued that addresses key enabling systems and resources, which will lead to broader and more meaningful impact. This approach consists of three pillars: Digital and Data, Policies and Processes, and People and Culture. Under Digital and Data, work will include:

  • Transforming Digital and Data Capabilities to Support Design and Delivery

  • Develop a GC client navigation ‘Portal’ to facilitate access to the GC suite of programs.
  • Support systems modernization across the GC by sharing best practices from trailblazing departments.
  • Develop a Data Sharing and Visualization Tool based upon data standards.
