Action:

ISC, in collaboration with Indigenous partners, will develop guidelines on training opportunities with a focus on Indigenous-led training as it relates to Indigenous data sovereignty.

Status:
In Progress
Area for Action:
Advance a whole-of-government approach to the management and sharing of Indigenous data .
Progress Made Since Last Update:

FNIGC relaunched their Fundamentals of OCAP course in 2023. This course is designed by First Nations and is intended principally for First Nations who work with data and are asserting the First Nations Principles of OCAP® as part of that work. It is also intended for those who interact with First Nations data or information and are looking to learn how they can best respect the principles in their work.

ISC supports this training opportunity by recommending the course as mandatory training for all new staff and encouraging long-standing staff members to refresh their knowledge of the First Nations Principles of Ownership, Control, Access and Possession.
