Summary
The Quebec region of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) is responsible for the assessment of several fish and invertebrate stocks exploited in the Estuary and the northern Gulf of St. Lawrence. The commercial catches sampling program is one of the sources of information used to complete these assessments. The data collected by this program, at wharf or at sea, offers among other things the advantage of a relatively large spatio-temporal coverage and provides some of the necessary knowledge to assess the demography and the structure of the exploited populations. This program is implemented by specialized DFO staff whose main mandate is to collect biological data on groundfish, pelagic fish and marine invertebrate species that are commercially exploited in the various marine communities.
TEM20K contains Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) polygons with key and amalgamated (concatenated) attributes derived from the RISC (Resource Inventory Standards Committee) standard attributes completed at a scale of 1 to 20 000. TEM divides the landscape into units according to a variety of ecological features including climate, physiography, surficial material, bedrock geology, soils and vegetation. TEM methods include manual air photo interpretation supported by selective field checking. This layer is derived from the STETEIATTRIBUTEPOLYSSP layer by filtering on the PROJECTTYPE and PROJECTMAPSCALE attributes.
Contained within the Atlas of Canada's Reference Map Series, 1961 to 2010, is a map of Quebec. The map shows federal, provincial and territorial boundaries, and also the boundaries of local areas and places of more than 50 000 inhabitants. The local areas shown are of two kinds: MRCs (Regional County Municipality), which are also named; and many of the larger township-size units. The transportation content consists of roads (shown in four classes), ferries, and railways.
