This layer details Important Areas (IAs) relevant to coral, sponge, and reef-building species in the West Coast Vancouver Island (WCVI) ecoregion. This data was mapped to inform the selection of marine Ecologically and Biologically Significant Areas (EBSA). Experts have indicated that these areas are relevant based upon their high ranking in one or more of three criteria (Uniqueness, Aggregation, and Fitness Consequences). Canada’s Oceans Act provides the legislative framework for an integrated ecosystem approach to management in Canadian oceans, particularly in areas considered ecologically or biologically significant.

Contained within the 2nd Edition (1915) of the Atlas of Canada, is a map that shows the extent of forested regions, using various colouring, in Canada. These regions include the Southern forest, Northern forest, and the Cordilleran forest. The map presents general portions of forested areas across the country which has been generally cleared of timber. Displayed is the section of Northern Forest that are less densely wooded; mixed prairie and woodland; prairie and outliers.
An archive of 2D regional seismic and long period magnetotelluric data collected during 20 years of work under the LITHOPROBE project. Data are primarily onshore and cover widespread regions of Canada. Available data types include raw digital data, processed sections, and images of final sections, as well as auxiliary information required for analysis of the data.
A digital grid of the top of the McMurray Formation, originally modeled from borehole data and adjusted to present-day and paleo river erosion. The grid is generated at a 250 m cell-size resolution, based on information as recent as 2003.
