This dataset contains the stable nitrogen (δ15N), carbon (δ13C), oxygen (δ18O), and hydrogen (δ2H) isotope data from 1123 samples of underfur hair of adult polar bears (Ursus maritimus) sampled between 1992 to 2017 from subpopulation boundaries (zone) in the Canadian Arctic and sub-Arctic. Wide-ranging apex predators are among the most challenging of all fauna to conserve and manage. This is especially true of the polar bear, an iconic predator that is hunted in Canada and threatened by global climate change. We used combinations of stable isotopes (13C,15N,2H,18O) in polar bear hair to test the ability of stable isotopic profiles to ‘assign’ bears to (1) predefined managed subpopulations, (2) subpopulations defined by similarities in stable isotope values using quadratic discriminant analysis, and (3) spatially explicit, isotopically distinct clusters derived from interpolated (i.e.

The Attitudes Towards Remembrance and Veterans' Week survey is a means through which Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) can measure Canadians' level of participation in remembrance activities, their attitudes toward those who served in Canada's military and their level of support for VAC's work related to remembrance. The purpose of the quantitative research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Department's overall remembrance programming. More specifically, the research was designed to:

  • Understand Canadians' attitudes towards an acceptance of commemorating Veterans and their sacrifices and achievements;

  • Monitor behavioural changes resulting from Canadians receiving information relating to remembrance;

  • Assess Canadians' awareness of and pride in Canadian military contributions and the sacrifices of Canadian Veterans;

  • Identify Canadians' knowledge of Canada's military contributions;

  • Provide VAC with concrete data to assist in performance measurement; and

  • Assess Canadians' level of participation (active and passive) in remembrance. The research results help guide the Department in its planning and programming for the future.

The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Nutrients in the St. Lawrence River indicator reports on the status of total phosphorus and total nitrogen concentrations along the St. Lawrence River. It rates total nitrogen and total phosphorus status based on whether total phosphorus and total nitrogen concentrations exceed Quebec's total phosphorus water quality guideline for the protection of aquatic life and a total nitrogen water quality guideline for the protection of aquatic life specific to the St. Lawrence River. Exceeding a water quality guideline suggests a greater risk to the health of the St. Lawrence River ecosystem posed by phosphorus and/or nitrogen.Information is provided to Canadians in a number of formats including: static and interactive maps, charts and graphs, HTML and CSV data tables and downloadable reports.
