The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Global trends in bird species survival indicator's Red List Index shows trends in aggregate extinction risk over time (i.e., overall improvement or deterioration in threat status) for bird species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. The index is derived from the proportion of species changing category due to genuine biological status changes from one assessment to the next, and acts as an indicator of the changing status of global biodiversity. A downward trend in the Red List Index indicates that the set of species assessed has moved to a higher level of extinction risk.

The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The indicator assesses the recovery trends of species at risk for which final recovery documents and trend information are available. Results should not be interpreted as a measure of recovery success until sufficient time has passed to allow species to recover and to allow enough information to be collected to assess that recovery. The indicator provides a preliminary assessment of whether recovery strategies are working.

The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Trends in Canada's bird populations indicator reports population trends of Canada's native bird species from 1970 to 2016. Bird species are categorized into species groups based on their feeding or habitat requirements. Because birds are sensitive to environmental changes, they can be used as an indicator of ecosystem health and the state of biodiversity.

The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Status of wild species indicators provide a measure of extinction risk and an indication of the overall state of biodiversity in Canada, since the loss of a species is a loss of biodiversity. A species is defined as a population of organisms that does not usually interbreed with other populations, even where they overlap in space and time. Extinction risks vary across groups, as does the state of knowledge.

The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Changes in the status of wildlife species at risk indicator reports on changes in wildlife species designations for wildlife species assessed by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC). Information is provided to Canadians in a number of formats including: static and interactive maps, charts and graphs, HTML and CSV data tables and downloadable reports. See the supplementary documentation for the data sources and details on how the data were collected and how the indicator was calculated.

The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Population status of Canada's migratory birds indicator reports the proportion of bird species listed in the Migratory Birds Convention Act whose populations fall within, or are above or below national population goals. It provides a snapshot assessment of the state of bird populations in Canada. Some bird species are managed towards specific population levels (for example, some hunted species or species of conservation concern).
