The Access to Information Act (Revised Statutes of Canada, Chapter A-1, 1985) (“ATI Act") was proclaimed on July 1, 1983. The ATI Act gives right of access to Canadian citizens or permanent residents in Canada or abroad, and all individuals and corporations present in Canada. The right of access is for information contained in government records, subject to certain specific and limited exceptions. Section 94 of the ATI Act requires that the head of every federal government institution prepare an Annual Report, which is tabled in Parliament, on the administration of the Act within the institution during each fiscal year.

The Access to Information Act came into effect on July 1, 1983, giving the public a right of access to information contained in government records, subject to certain specific and limited exceptions. Section 72 of the Access to Information Act requires that the head of every government institution submit an annual report to Parliament, detailing the administration of the Act within the institution for each fiscal year.
