The Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues. The Drinking water advisories indicators provide a long-term view of the main reasons why boil water advisories are issued. They also report on the relationship between community size and the percentage of boil water advisories issued each year. The indicators exclude "Do not consume" and "Do not use" advisories, which represent approximately 2% of all drinking water advisories in Canada annually.

This dataset includes the following information for public registered and municipal drinking water supplies: Site Name, County, Date Boil Advisory Issued, Date Boil Advisory Removed, Facility Type (Registered or Municipal), Length of Advisory in Days, Reason for the Report. This dataset includes boil water advisories from 2006 - current.

The Long-term drinking water advisories affecting First Nations water systems indicator provides a snap shot of the Government of Canada's progress towards eliminating the 78 long-term drinking water advisories affecting First Nations water systems financially supported by Indigenous Services Canada. It is used to assess progress towards the 2016–2019 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy target of lifting all long-term drinking water advisories on federally funded public water systems on reserves by March 2021. Information is provided to Canadians in a number of formats including: static and interactive maps, charts and graphs, HTML and CSV data tables and downloadable reports.
