​The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens in multi-ingredient meat and fish/shellfish products with a grain-based coating. Of 360 samples tested, 11 were found to contain undeclared allergens including egg, soy, and the milk protein beta-lactoglobulin (BLG). The most frequent positive results of the presence of undeclared allergens were in seafood products. 5 products tested positive for undeclared egg were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.

2 surveys were completed to assess the presence of undeclared allergens and gluten in herb and spice products. The initial survey took place from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016, in which the main objective was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens in ground herbs and spices consisting of only 1 ingredient. 598 samples were tested, and 34% (203) of the samples were found to contain at least 1 undeclared allergen, including the milk protein beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), egg, hazelnut, peanut, sesame, soy, and gluten. These positive results mostly indicated the presence of gluten in imported products.

The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens in coffee products of various types and flavours. Three hundred and sixty samples were tested and 1.7% (6) of the samples were found to contain undeclared allergens including the milk protein beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), as well as egg, gluten, and soy. Most positive results for undeclared allergens were associated with instant coffee products. None of the products sampled were found to present a health risk.

The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared gluten in gluten-free prepackaged ready-to-eat (RTE) bakery products. Of the 300 samples tested, 5 were found to contain undeclared gluten. The most frequent positive results of the presence of undeclared allergens were in the dessert products. No products were deemed to represent a health risk and was recalled.

The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens in refrigerated dips and spreads. 400 samples were tested, and 14 of the samples were found to contain undeclared allergens including the milk protein beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), almond, egg, gluten, peanut, sesame, and soy. Most positive results indicated the presence of peanut in vegetable products.

Of 360 samples tested, 25 were found to contain undeclared allergens including the milk proteins beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) and casein, as well as gluten, egg, and soy. Most positive results indicated the presence of gluten in cold drink mix products. 6 products were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.

​The main objective of this survey was to obtain additional information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens in a variety of flavour packets. 993 samples were tested, and 19% (185) of the samples were found to contain at least 1 undeclared allergen including gluten, soy, mustard, sesame, peanut, almond, hazelnut, egg, and milk proteins casein and beta-lactoglobulin (BLG). Most positive results indicated the presence of allergens in spices and seasoning products.10 products were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled. Of the recalled products, 9 were spices and seasoning products.

​The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens and gluten in Valentine’s Day-themed candy and chocolate products. Of the 345 samples tested, 10 were found to contain undeclared gluten or allergens such as beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), peanut, almond and hazelnut. A single candy product containing gluten and 1 chocolate product containing both hazelnut and almond were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.
