These Soil Mapping Data Packages include 1. a Soil Map dataset which includes the equivalents to Soil Project Boundaries, Soil Survey Spatial View mapping polygons with attributes from the Soil Name and Layer Files, plus + A Soil Site dataset which includes soil pit site information and detailed soil pit descriptions and any associated lab analyses, and + The Soil Data Dictionary which documents the fields and allowable codes within the data. The Soil Map geodatabase contains the 'best available' data ranging from 1:20,000 scale to 1:250,000 scale with overlapping data removed. The choice of the datasets that remain is based on connectivity to the soil attributes (soil name and layer files), map scale and survey date. (Note: the BC Soil Landscapes of Canada (BCSLC) 1:1,000,000 data has not been included in the Soil_Map or SIFT, but is available from: CANSIS.

Soil Mapping (SOIL) Project Boundaries (study areas) contains the soil survey project area and attributes describing each project (project level metadata), plus links to the locations of other data associated with the project (e.g., soil survey reports, polygon datasets, plotfiles, scanned maps, legends). Soil Mapping divides the landscape into units according to soil association, name, type, drainage, parent material, and texture. This layer is derived from the STETEIPROJECTBOUNDARIESSP layer by filtering on the PROJECT_TYPE attribute. The Soil Survey dataset contains project boundaries as well as the soil survey polygons which are available in a variety of formats including: 1) via the Soil Information Finder Tool Mapping App (interactive app), 2) Soil Survey Spatial data with Soil Name and Layer Files (for download or viewing via iMapBC), or as 3) Soil Mapping Data Packages with geodatabase or shape files, and a data dictionary.

The National Ecological Framework for Canada's "Soil Development by Ecodistrict” dataset contains tables that provide soil development information for components within the ecodistrict framework polygon. It provides soil development codes and their English and French-language descriptions as well as the percentage of the polygon that the component occupies. The soil development descriptions are based on the second edition of the Canadian System of Soil Classification (Agriculture Canada Expert Committee on Soil Survey, 1987).

The National Ecological Framework for Canada's "Soil Texture by Ecoprovince” dataset contains tables that provide soil texture information within the ecoprovince framework polygon. It provides soil texture codes and their English and French language descriptions as well as the percentage of the polygon that the component occupies. Soil texture indicates the relative proportions of the various soil separates (sand, silt, clay) as described by classes of texture. Soil separates are mineral particles, 2.0 mm in diameter and include: gravel 0.2 -7.5 cm and cobbles 7.5-25.0 cm.

This map illustrates the distribution of soil parent material textures in the agricultural region of Alberta. Soil texture is defined by the relative proportions of the sand, silt and clay particles present. Soil textures are identified by classes using the Soil Texture Triangle illustrated below. The Soil Texture Triangle identifies the textural class of a soil at the intersection of the percent sand (x-axis) and the percent clay (y-axis).

The Yukon Detailed Soil Survey dataset series consists of geo-referenced soil polygons with linkages to attribute data found in the associated Component File (CMP), Soil Names File (SNF) and Soil Layer File (SLF). Together, these datasets describe the spatial distribution of soils and associated landforms in the major valleys of the Yukon.

This dataset is a rasterized version of the Soil Landscapes of Canada (SLC) dataset. Soil attributes in this dataset have been collated from SLC map polygons and follow the GlobalSoilMap.net standards and specifications at specified depth increments extending over the agricultural portion of Canada. Weighted averages of soil attribute properties are generated from existing soil horizon information to conform to recognized fixed depth increments. Soil attribute weighted means are calculated by using all the soil components based on their areal extent within each SLC polygon.

The Agricultural Region of Alberta Soil Inventory Database (AGRASID3.0) Detailed Soil Survey dataset series at a scale of 1:100 000 consists of geo-referenced soil polygons with linkages to attribute data found in the associated Component File (CMP), Soil Names File (SNF) and Soil Layer File (SLF).

Together, these datasets describe the spatial distribution of soils and associated landscapes within the agricultural region of Alberta (an area of approximately 26M ha.)

The “Soils of Canada, Derived” national scale thematic datasets display the distribution and areal extent of soil attributes such as drainage, texture of parent material, kind of material, and classification of soils in terms of provincial Detailed Soil Surveys (DDS) polygons, Soil Landscape Polygons (SLCs), Soil Order and Great Group. The relief and associated slopes of the Canadian landscape are depicted on the local surface form thematic dataset.

The purpose of the “Soils of Canada, Derived” series is to facilitate the cartographic display and basic queries of the Soil Landscapes of Canada at a national scale. For more detailed or sophisticated analysis, users should investigate the full “Soil Landscapes of Canada” product.

The Prairie Soil Zones file shows the general distribution of major soil zones across the Prairie region of Canada. Soil zones (based on the Canadian System of Soil Classification) are named based on the dominant soil classification of the soils in each zone. Data extent is limited to the Agricultural Zone as defined in Soil Landscapes of Canada v 3.0 (Lefebvre et al. 2005).
