This document describes the approach that the Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) will use for identifying pesticides that cause common toxic effects by common mechanisms of toxicity.

The following policy document is intended to provide guidance and information to PMRA personnel and decision-makers, and to the public. As a guidance document, the policy in this document describes the process used by PMRA scientists in dietary risk assessments.

This document provides an overview of the policy of Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency in estimating the concentration of pesticides in potential drinking water sources. These estimates are incorporated into aggregate exposure assessments as part of the process of assessing the potential impact of pesticide use on the health of Canadians.

The following document is a policy/guidance document that reflects the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (U.S. EPA's) recent dietary risk assessment science policy/guidance paper entitled, Choosing a Percentile of Acute Dietary Exposure as a Threshold of Regulatory Concern (March 16, 2000).

Aggregate exposure and risk assessments involve the analysis of exposure to a single chemical by multiple pathways and routes of exposure. The pathways of exposure considered in this general principles document include the potential for pesticide residues in food and drinking water, as well as residues from pesticide use in residential, non-occupational environments.

This Revised User’s Guide (which we sometimes call the “RUG”) updates and replaces the two previous versions: the original User’s Guide released in July 2008 with the Final Version of the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines (SSAG); and the New and Improved User’s Guide which we produced in March 2010. The previous versions of the User’s Guide have frequently been cited by the courts in their decisions, and by lawyers in their arguments about the Advisory Guidelines. This version provides us with an opportunity to update the past five years of SSAG case law, as well as to address some practical issues which have emerged since 2010. The SSAG have now been in use for more than ten years, starting with the Draft Proposal in January 2005 and then the Final Version of 2008.

The purpose of this regulatory directive is to inform applicants, provinces and territories, user groups, and other interested parties that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Joint Review Programs for Reduced-Risk Pesticides will be extended by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) to include submissions made to the PMRA only.

In this Regulatory Directive, Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) describes new provisions for the protection of proprietary interests in data submitted to the PMRA in support of registration, re-evaluation and special review of pesticides, including technical grade active ingredients and their manufacturing concentrates as well as end-use products.

The Amendment and Notification Form (ANF) is the exclusive form to be used for submitting post licensing changes for a licensed natural health product (NHP) to the Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD).
