The Credit Conditions Survey was conducted between January and March of 2014. The questions were fact-based and focused on financing sought by small enterprises (1 to 99 employees) during the 2013 calendar year. A total of 2,545 small businesses completed the questionnaire, which included 25 questions. This is the second largest Canadian survey on small business financing.
The Survey on Financing and Growth of Small and Medium Enterprises was designed to determine the types of financing that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are using, and to collect information on recent attempts by those SMEs to obtain new financing. In addition, the survey gathers information on firm growth, engagement in international business activities, innovation and intellectual property, as well as owner characteristics.

The Statistics Canada triennial Survey on Financing of Small and Medium Enterprises, launched in 2001, measures the demand and sources for financing of Canadian SMEs, including data on the application process, firm profiles and demographic characteristics of SME ownership. Occasionally, abbreviated supplemental surveys will be administered to measure changing conditions in the marketplace, as was the case in 2001.

The Survey on Financing of Small and Medium Enterprises - 2004, surveyed enterprises between September 2004 and March 2005. The estimates were generated from the responses obtained from 13 042 SMEs (enterprises that had a gross revenue of less than $50 million, had less than 500 full-time-equivalent employees and were operational even for a very short time during the reference year), rendering a response rate (percentage of in-scope businesses) of 45 percent. The estimates related to Part 2 of the survey were generated from responses to a paper questionnaire obtained from 3500 SMEs.
