Interim Order respecting the importation and sale of medical devices for use in relation to COVID-19
The Minister of Health, pursuant to subsection 30.1(1)Footnote(i) of the Food and Drugs Act Footnote(ii), makes the annexed Interim Order Respecting the Importation and Sale of Medical Devices for Use in Relation to COVID-19.
The Interim Order (IO) No. 2 continues to support the optional pathway introduced by IO No. 1 to facilitate clinical trials for potential COVID-19 drugs and medical devices.

Interim Order No. 2 Respecting Drugs, Medical Devices, and Foods for a Special Dietary Purpose in Relation to COVID-19 (Interim Order No. 2) was signed on March 1, 2021.
This document provides instructions for manufacturers on how to add FSDP to the List of Foods for a Special Dietary Purpose for Exceptional Importation and Sale (herein referred to as the List). It also provides guidance to importers on the requirements for submitting a Notification to the Minister, in order to import a designated FSDP, as per sections 26 and 27 of the Interim Order.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created an urgent need for drugs, biocides, medical devices and foods for a special dietary purpose, and affected their supply in Canada. To help prevent or alleviate shortages of these products, the Minister of Health has signed an interim order (IO).
