Global Affairs Canada's 2020 to 2023 Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy demonstrates the department's contribution to the achievement of the goals and targets of the 2019 to 2022 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS). Specifically, it outlines Global Affairs Canada's contribution to 3 goals: Greening government, Effective action on climate change, and Clean growth. It also describes actions by the department to support sustainable development more broadly, including aligning efforts across the mandate to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, Strategic Environmental Assessment practices, new methods to track and take account of carbon emissions internally, and encouraging responsible business conduct.

The modern concept of sustainable development is derived mostly from the 1987 Brundtland Report, which defines Sustainable Development as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. Sustainable Development is a key priority for the Government of Canada, which can only be achieved with robust engagement at all stages of policy and practice and at all levels of government – federal, provincial/territorial and municipal. The Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) identifies the Government of Canada’s sustainable development planning and reporting commitments. The FSDS fulfils the requirement of the Federal Sustainable Development Act (FSDA) to develop and table every three years a federal strategy that makes environmental decision making more transparent and accountable to Parliament.

The 2016–19 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) presents the Government of Canada’s sustainable development goals and targets, as required by the Federal Sustainable Development Act (the Act).

The 2019 to 2022 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) presents the Government of Canada’s sustainable development goals and targets, as required by the Federal Sustainable Development Act. In keeping with the purpose of this Act to provide the legal framework for developing and implementing a Federal Sustainable Development Strategy that will make environmental decision-making more transparent and accountable to Parliament, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) supports the goals laid out in the FSDS through the activities described in this Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS).

The 2020 to 2023 Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS) for Public Services and Procurement Canada provides information on commitments and performance expectations made in response to the most recent Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS).

Over the next three years, the 2020 to 2023 Departmental Strategy will demonstrate the linkages between the Department’s actions to advancing Federal Strategy goals and targets, and the environment-related Sustainable Development Goals to which they relate.

This Report outlines the Government of Canada's 2021 sustainable development goals. Required by the Federal Sustainable Development Act, the strategy report encourages transparency and accountability surrounding sustainable development targets given by Parliament.

This review focused on whether federal departments and agencies contributed to the goal of safe and healthy communities set out in the 2016–2019 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy. Federal departments and agencies that contribute to this goal must indicate in their departmental sustainable development strategies which of their departmental targets and actions contribute to the federal goal. They are required to report their progress on these targets and actions each year to Parliament in the supplementary tables to their departmental results reports.

This review focused on whether federal departments and agencies contributed to meeting the 2016–2019 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy’s goals of healthy coasts and oceans, pristine lakes and rivers, and sustainable food, as applicable to each organization.

The Alberta Sustainable Resource Development Management Area dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the management areas established for the former Department of Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (ASRD) to provide services and management of the province's sustainable resources. Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Operations Regions have been approved and are effective May 29, 2013.
