Grids surveyed is a polygon feature class containing the 5’ latitude by 5’ longitude grid cells surveyed for all seasons combined including the grids that were surveyed but where no species were seen. In order to produce maps for a specific season a selection for these grids must be performed.

The Science Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) in the Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) region has been conducting multispecies research vessel (RV) surveys using a stratified random survey design since the early 1970s. The DFO RV survey dataset represents the longest time series of species data in the NL region, making it ideal for mapping the average relative densities of species over time. Average relative density maps depict the interpolated densities (calculated from kg/tow) of fish species or functional groups. These densities are averaged over each time series (Engel and Campelen) and include data from all available seasons, so they represent persistent areas of relatively high and low densities for that species or functional group for the duration of the time series, independent of season.
The atlas provides maps and datasets representing seabirds at-sea densities in eastern Canada. Data were collected using ships of opportunity surveys and therefore spatial and seasonal coverage varies considerably. Densities are computed using distance sampling to adjust for variation in detection rates among observers and survey conditions. Depending on conditions, seabirds can be difficult to identify at the species level.

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) are examples of RG3 pathogens where the pathogen risk and CL assessments have been revisited by the Agency in conjunction with HIV/HTLV specialists based on current risks associated with activities involving these pathogens. It has been determined that HIV & HTLV-1 can be safely handled at CL2/CL2-Ag with specific additional operational requirements (see Section 4.0). This Biosafety Directive is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the risk assessment outcomes, subsequent CL decisions, and considerations that have been made for those working with HIV and HTLV-1. The Biosafety Directive for HIV and HTLV-1 is to be used in conjunction with the CBSG.
