Geochemical analytical data are reported for 123 Cretaceous rock samples from northwestern Alberta collected by Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) staff from 2001 to 2005. The values for one repeat analysis are included (5602R), making a total of 124 analytical records. The results include analyses of 57 mudstone, 29 shale, 13 ironstone, 6 pyrite (float), 5 kimberlite (including one till clast) and 5 sandstone (including one bioclastic sandstone) samples. Geochemical analyses were performed by Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd. of Vancouver, British Columbia, for a wide range of elements and oxides using the following analytical methods.

The Geological Atlas of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin was designed primarily as a reference volume documenting the subsurface geology of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. This GIS dataset is one of a collection of shapefiles representing part of Chapter 15 of the Atlas, Permian Strata of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, Figure 15, Permian Lithology: Sandstone. Shapefiles were produced from archived digital files created by the Alberta Geological Survey in the mid-1990s, and edited in 2005-06 to correct, attribute and consolidate the data into single files by feature type and by figure.

This is a 1000 m cell-sized raster grid dataset of the top of the sandstone of the Haynes member of the Paskapoo Formation. We mapped the sandstone using 3-D geostatistical modelling algorithms from data derived from sand calculations of 25 m thick slice intervals of the Paskapoo Formation. We selected the >55% sand isovalue to define sandstone, based on the results of mini-models that show vertical hydraulic connections being established if sand abundance is 55% or greater. This grid represents the upper surface of that three-dimensional body defined by the >55% sand threshold value.

The dataset includes subsurface stratigraphic picks for the base of the Belly River Group/Wapiti Formation in the Alberta Plains (Townships 1 to 94, Ranges 1W4 to 14W6) made from wireline geophysical well logs. In general, the pick was made at the base of the lowest sandstone bed (overlying the Pakowki or Lea Park Formation) that was overlain by coal. If coal is absent, the pick was made at the base of the first sandstone. We screened the well data to detect errors resulting from deviated wells, as well as incorrect ground and kelly bushing elevation data.

This dataset evaluates the sandstone-hosted uranium potential of Alberta. An Alberta Geological Survey database of oil and gas well logs were queried to identify wells with gamma values greater than 300 API (American Petroleum Institute units). An algorithm written for this analysis queried more than 48 000 gamma ray logs from more than 22 000 wells. Of those, 11 476 readings greater than 300 API, within the upper 500 metres, were found in 6176 wells.

This data release is a compilation of data that characterize Alberta groundwater springs. It was compiled from several government datasets and reports, and fieldwork conducted by Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) staff members. The source datasets include the digitized Alberta Research Council (ARC) Hydrogeology Map Series, the AGS Springs of Alberta report, ARC water chemistry data, Groundwater Resources Information Services (GWRIS) Index, Alberta Environmental Protection (AEP) springs, AGS Northeastern Alberta (NEALTA) project springs, field work conducted by Dr. J. Tóth and R. Stein, and other more recent spring sampling projects. The data release includes field measurements and water chemistry analyses, as well as some isotope data.
