Please note that this is the v1.0 version of DEP. a new version (v2.0) supercedes this dataset. The Derived Ecosite Phase (DEP) is a digital and spatial representation of ecological sites and phases in those areas of Alberta where both Alberta Vegetation Inventory (AVI) and LiDAR are available. The AVI is an imagery-based digital inventory developed to identify the type, extent and conditions of vegetation, where it exists and what changes are occurring.

The Primary Land and Vegetation Inventory (PLVI) is a photo-based digital inventory developed to identify the type, extent and conditions of vegetation in the forested and parkland areas of the province of Alberta. This includes portions of both the Green and White areas of the province. It will include areas of the province extending north from the extent of the Grassland Vegetation Inventory (GVI) and will include areas where the detail and expense of Alberta Vegetation Inventory (AVI) are not warranted, or time and resources are limiting constraints. Ecological site phase (ecosite phase) is the main level of classification used in PLVI.

The Alberta ArcHydro Phase 2 Data was developed to support the delineation of catchment areas in the province of Alberta. It was generated using a DEM which had the Base Stream and Flow Representation (Single Line Hydrography Network) burned (excavated) into it. The data is divided into eighteen major basins across Alberta using an ArcHydro ID to relate the datasets.

The Phase 2, or Detailed, Forest Inventory is the second provincial level forest inventory conducted in the province of Alberta. The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory (initiated in 1949 and completed by 1956) preceded the Detailed Inventory. The Phase 2 (Detailed) Forest Inventory was undertaken to cover lands where commercial timber commitments existed that were not inventoried as part of the Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory. The Phase 2 (Detailed) Forest Inventory utilized aerial photography from 1956 to 1966 to capture attribution similar to the Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory but at a more detailed level.

Biomonitoring provides a measure of internal doses of environmental chemicals or agents and allows for a more accurate measure of human health risk from these chemical exposures. Information presented in these Alberta Biomonitoring Program datasets were collected as part of two province-wide biomonitoring studies investigating the serum concentrations of a variety of environmental chemicals (both natural and synthetic) in pregnant women in northern, central, and southern Alberta (Phase 1) and in children in southern Alberta (Phase 2). The goals of the Alberta Biomonitoring Program are to create a benchmark against which to track future exposures, to provide a starting point for assessing health risks, to indicate possible exposure sources and to prioritize research efforts. Chemicals targeted for monitoring in this program were selected using expert guidance and reviewing similar studies conducted by other agencies.

The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory was initiated in 1949 and completed by 1956. The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory included all publicly owned forested lands in the province except Indian lands, national parks, and an area known as the Rocky Mountains Forest Reserve. The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory was used to define lands suitable for agriculture, to determine timber harvest levels and plan forest protection and timber and industrial development. Through aerial photo interpretation, land was classified as productive, potentially productive, or non-productive.
