Coastline segments indicating herring spawing sites along the coastline of British Columbia. Attribute information includes relative importance, spawing frequency and spawn index. CRIMS is a legacy dataset of BC coastal resource data that was acquired in a systematic and synoptic manner from 1979 and was intermittently updated throughout the years. Resource information was collected in nine study areas using a peer-reviewed provincial Resource Information Standards Committee consisting of DFO Fishery Officers, First Nations, and other subject matter experts.

Fecundity of Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus) was estimated within five spawning areas (German Bank, Scots Bay, Seal Island, Southern Shore Nova Scotia, and Eastern Shore Nova Scotia) in Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) areas 4WX in 2019 and 2020. The objective of this project was to describe the fecundity-at-size (weight, length, and age) relationships among spawning grounds, compare these relationships to historical fecundity-at-size relationships, and assess the influence of changes in weight-at-age and fecundity over time to the reproductive potential of a unit of spawning stock biomass. This index is the cumulative summation of negative northwesterly atmospheric circulation frequency anomalies: Z (westerly), M1, (northwesterly), and M2 (southwesterly) for December through March. An increasing trend in Pacific Circulation Index (PCI) reflects increased westerly and southwesterly atmospheric circulation off the west coast of Canada. Correct citation: J. R. King, V. V. Ivanov, V. Kurashov, R. J. Beamish, G. A. McFarlane. General circulation of the atmosphere over the North Pacific and its relationship to the Aleutian Low.

Kluane National Park and Reserve has the only naturally occurring population of kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) in the Canadian national park system. In 2002, the population experienced a significant decline that resulted in extremely low numbers for well over a decade. The reason for the decline remains unknown and continued monitoring is necessary to shed light on possible causes. Spawning Kokanee salmon have been counted since 1976.

Fish Habitat Assessment Output: 2 of 16

High Water Level (75.4m ASL) - Spawning Habitat - Low Vegetation Association Species (All Temperature Windows)

Habitat suitability was assessed for the Bay of Quinte Area of Concern, at a 3 m grid resolution, using the Habitat Ecosystem Assessment Tool (HEAT), temperature algorithms, vegetation models, and water level input. Habitat classifications were based on three variables: depth (elevation), vegetation, and substrate; and modified by temperature suitabilities. The final suitability maps were based on documented habitat and temperature associations for the fish in the area. Different life stages (spawning requirements, nursery habitat, adult habitat) were modeled for the years of 1972-2011.
