The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens and gluten in Valentine’s Day-themed candy and chocolate products. Of the 345 samples tested, 10 were found to contain undeclared gluten or allergens such as beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), peanut, almond and hazelnut. A single candy product containing gluten and 1 chocolate product containing both hazelnut and almond were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain additional information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens and gluten in hot drink and instant coffee mixes. Of the 293 samples tested, 7 samples were found to contain undeclared gluten and/or allergens such as beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), casein, soy and hazelnut. A single hot chocolate product containing BLG and casein was deemed to represent a health risk and was recalled.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens and gluten in bakery products with gluten-free claims. Of the 287 samples tested, 26 samples were found to contain undeclared gluten and/or allergens such as beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), casein, soy, sesame and egg. A single dessert product containing BLG and casein, and 1 other bakery product containing gluten were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain additional information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens in multi-ingredient meat products. 359 samples were tested, and 13 samples were found to contain at least 1 undeclared allergen including egg, gluten, soy, and the milk proteins beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) and casein. The most frequent positive results of the presence of undeclared allergens were in sausage and hot dog products. 4 products in this survey were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens and gluten in frozen desserts. 598 samples were tested in this survey, and 10 of the samples were found to contain undeclared allergens including the milk protein beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) and casein, as well as gluten, soy and almond. Most positive results indicated the presence of milk allergens in non-dairy frozen desserts. 1 non-dairy frozen dessert containing undeclared milk and 1 dairy frozen dessert containing undeclared almond were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain additional information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens in a variety of flavour packets. 993 samples were tested, and 19% (185) of the samples were found to contain at least 1 undeclared allergen including gluten, soy, mustard, sesame, peanut, almond, hazelnut, egg, and milk proteins casein and beta-lactoglobulin (BLG). Most positive results indicated the presence of allergens in spices and seasoning products.10 products were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled. Of the recalled products, 9 were spices and seasoning products.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain additional information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens and gluten in protein substitute/vegetarian meat products. Of the 290 samples tested, 12 samples were found to contain undeclared gluten or allergens such as beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), casein, egg, peanut, sesame and soy. 2 protein substitute ready-to-eat (RTE) meal products and 2 meat alternative products were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens in hot and cold powdered drink mix products. Of 360 samples tested, 25 were found to contain undeclared allergens including the milk proteins beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) and casein, as well as gluten, egg, and soy. Most positive results indicated the presence of gluten in cold drink mix products. 6 products were deemed to represent a health risk and were recalled.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared gluten in candies. 586 samples were tested in this survey, and 4 of the samples were found to contain undeclared gluten. 2 positive results were found in hard candy products while the other 2 were found in soft candy products. 3 of these 4 samples were forwarded to the CFIA's Office of Food Safety and Recall (OFSR) to determine if the levels found would pose a health risk to allergic individuals.
The main objective of this survey was to obtain baseline information regarding the presence and levels of undeclared allergens and gluten in meal replacements and nutritional supplements. 300 were tested and 0.7% (2) of the samples were found to contain undeclared allergens including the milk protein beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), as well as egg. 1 positive result for undeclared BLG was found in a cereal product, while the other positive result was for undeclared egg allergen in a meal replacement product. 1 meal replacement product sampled was found to present a health risk and was recalled.
