A targeted survey on bacterial pathogens in bean sprouts and seed sprouts analyzed 3,221 samples for Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, and generic E. coli. Some of these samples were also tested for non-O157 Verotoxigenic E. coli (VTEC). E. coli O157:H7 was not found in any samples. Six samples were found to contain non-O157 VTEC.
A targeted survey on bacterial pathogens in dried sprouted seed products analyzed 1,936 samples for Verotoxigenic Escherichia coli O157:H7 (E. coli O157:H7), non-O157 Verotoxigenic E. coli (non-O157 VTEC), Salmonella species (spp. ), Bacillus cereus (B. cereus), Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens), Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and generic E. coli. Over 97% of dried sprouted seed products were assessed as satisfactory. For the remainder of the samples, CFIA conducted appropriate follow-up activities such as facility inspections and additional sampling.
A targeted survey on bacterial pathogens in fresh leafy vegetables analyzed 5,508 samples for Salmonella, Shigella, non-O157 Verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (non-O157 VTEC), Verotoxigenic Escherichia coli O157 (E. coli O157), and generic Escherichia coli (E. coli). No Salmonella, Shigella, and E. coli O157 were found in any of the samples. Non-O157 VTEC was found in 1 sample and elevated levels of generic E. coli were found in 25 samples. The CFIA conducted appropriate follow-up activities resulting in facility inspections and/or additional sampling.A targeted survey analysed 483 samples of fresh mushrooms for the presence of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from the following enteric parasites of concern: Cyclospora cayetanensis, Cryptosporidium species, Toxoplasma gondii, and Giardia species.
A targeted survey analyzed 3,071 samples of cucumbers for bacterial pathogens such as Salmonella, Shigella, Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, and generic E. coli. No Salmonella, Shigella, or E. coli O157:H7 were found in any of the samples. High levels of generic E. coli were found in three samples. The CFIA conducted appropriate follow-up activities resulting in facility inspections, additional sampling and/or implementation of corrective actions by the processing facilities.
A targeted survey analyzed 2947 samples of fresh whole stone fruits for the presence of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, Salmonella species (spp. ), Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) and generic E. coli. Additionally, of the 2947 samples, 1001 were tested for Shigella. No Salmonella spp., E. coli O157:H7 and Shigella were found in any of the samples tested.
A targeted survey on bacterial pathogens in fresh-cut ready-to-eat fruits analyzed 2,621 samples for Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, Shigella, Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, and generic E. coli. No Salmonella, Shigella or E. coli O157:H7 were found in any of the samples. Listeria monocytogenes was found in fourteen samples and elevated levels of generic E. coli were found in one sample. The CFIA conducted appropriate follow-up activities.

The CFIA conducted appropriate follow-up activities resulting in facility inspections, additional sampling and/or implementation of corrective actions by the processing facilities.
A targeted survey analyzed 4,710 samples of mangoes and papayas for bacterial pathogens such as Salmonella, Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, Shigella, and generic E. coli. All mango samples (100%) and over 99% of the papaya samples were satisfactory. E. coli O157:H7 and Shigella were not found on any samples tested. Salmonella was found on the surface of two papaya samples and seven papaya samples had high levels of generic E. coli.
A targeted survey analyzed 2,400 in-shell nut samples, 2,612 shelled nut samples, and 1,142 nut butter samples for bacterial pathogens such as Salmonella, Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) (nut butters only), and generic E. coli. No E. coli O157:H7, L. monocytogenes or generic E. coli were found in any of the samples. Salmonella was found in five in-shell nut samples. The CFIA conducted appropriate follow-up activities.
A targeted survey on bacterial pathogens in pre-packaged, fresh-cut, ready-to-eat vegetables analyzed 2,675 samples for Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, Shigella, Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, and generic E. coli. Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli O157:H7, and generic E. coli were not found in any samples. Six samples were found to contain Listeria monocytogenes. The CFIA conducted appropriate follow-up activities for the Listeria monocytogenes contaminated samples resulting in product recalls and/or the implementation of corrective actions by the processing facilities.
