This dataset displays the geographic areas within which critical habitat for terrestrial species at risk listed on Schedule 1 of the federal Species at Risk Act (SARA) occurs in Ontario. Under SARA, is “the habitat that is necessary for the survival or recovery of a listed wildlife species and that is identified as the species’ critical habitat in the recovery strategy or action plan for the species.”

The geographic area within which critical habitat may occur is represented as “grid squares”. These are coarse (1, 10, 50 or 100 km2) squares based on a standardized UTM grid or coarse National Topographic System (NTS) scales (1:50, 1:250) that serve as a flag to review the associated species’ recovery document. However, not all of the area within these grid squares is critical habitat.

This layer details Important Areas (IAs) relevant to key fish species in the Strait of Georgia (SOG) ecoregion. This data was mapped to inform the selection of marine Ecologically and Biologically Significant Areas (EBSA). Experts have indicated that these areas are relevant based upon their high ranking in one or more of three criteria (Uniqueness, Aggregation, and Fitness Consequences). The distribution of IAs within ecoregions is used in the designation of EBSAs.

This data provides the integrated cadastral framework for the specified Canada Land. The cadastral framework consists of active and superseded cadastral parcel, roads, easements, administrative areas, active lines, points and annotations. The cadastral lines form the boundaries of the parcels. COGO attributes are associated to the lines and depict the adjusted framework of the cadastral fabric.

The Riparian Quality Index (IQBR) is used to assess the ecological condition of the riparian environment. It is built from nine components that have been weighted according to their potential to fulfill ecological functions with regard to the protection of aquatic ecosystems. Data on the quality of the riparian strip come from benthos monitoring stations sampled between 2003 and 2019.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**

Obtaining the right information at the right time in the right place is critical for organizations to carry out their day-to-day business. This requirement must be balanced with the appropriate information protection measures. Historically, organizations’ information has been protected by separating networks having different levels of information. However, this separation makes it difficult to share information.
